Halloween hasn’t ghosted you this year, it just looks a little different. Nevertheless, candy is still hitting the shelves and ghouls are shopping online amid the pandemic for the perfect demonic disguise to celebrate their favorite holiday in style. That’s right! While commemorating the occasion may be scarier than usual with the virus and all, there are still tons of ways that you can get your spook on.

Decorate your home and outdoor spaces to the max

While many ghouls are delighted to buy horror decor online and put it up on display year-round, others only become empowered to decorate as the proximity to Halloween approaches. So, if you’re on the haunt for a way to lift your spirits this spooky season, consider decking out your crypt with ornamental home decor and even allow your chilling furnishings to creepily seep out and festoon your front porch. After all, ‘tis your favorite time of year! With everything from gruesome props and signs to menacing wall decor and horror-tastic pillow covers, we’ve got you covered for adornments this Halloween.

Host a virtual costume party

The origins of costume-wearing come from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was held annually on October 31st. Aside from lighting bonfires, people would also disguise themselves to ward off evil spirits and supernatural beings that were allowed to roam the earth that one day. Now, Halloween has become the perfect excuse to dress up and transform ourselves into some of our most beloved villains and characters. Needless to say, whether your garb is scary, funny, or sexy, it deserves some quintessential attention. Thus, hosting a virtual Halloween-themed party would allow attendees to showcase their costumes from the safety of their homes and celebrate remotely in spooky style.

Stay inside and binge-watch horror movies

Whether you prefer to watch your favorite cringe-worthy flicks from the cozy comforts of your living room or are lucky enough to have a high-end projector to help create the ultimate backyard setup, having a Halloween horror movie marathon is one of the best ways to spend the spookiest days of the year! Choose from classic films like the 1979 version of The Amityville Horror, The Sixth Sense, and The Little Shop of Horrors, and if you need something else to get yourself into the spirit, buy some horror decor online to better accompany your experience.

Organize a grueling scavenger hunt in your home

If you’re good at creating riddles, why not heighten your devilish charm to new scary levels and send your favorite ghouls on a scavenger hunt? Whether you need to buy some horror decor online or you’re already equipped for the challenge, decorate themed rooms throughout your home, hiding candy, toys, and other creepy prizes and create a fang-tastic haunted house experience, dressed to the nines.

How to select the ultimate Halloween costume

Posted on

While most of our readers celebrate the spooky season year-round, for many lovers of the holidays, it starts October 1st. So, since Halloween is now officially just around the corner, it’s time for you to cultivate that perfect costume that dislodges the right number of chills and thrills. Never fear, if you’re the type of ghoul who’s trying to keep within a budget but is still wanting to come up with a creative, original costume idea, never fear. Simply look into a crystal ball, or easily read the following blog for some dreadful ideas that will help you select an eerie-sistable disguise.

Decide on what type of look you’re going for

Selecting the perfect Halloween ensemble can be a difficult decision, especially with the power to buy horror costumes online and in-store. Nevertheless, the easiest way to narrow down your list of ghastly apparel choices is by determining which category your disguise will fall under. Will your Halloween costume be sexy? Scary? Funny? Cute? With the chance to hide behind a spooktastic persona for a day, it’s important to choose a garb that you’ll love and even better, something that’s unique! In finding your own style, ponder what you wear daily and what’s most comfortable for you. This alone should help you to decide what type of getup would best compliment you.

What colors do you enjoy wearing?

While most horror fans find black to be a satisfying shade to flaunt, some prefer the added vibrance that can go alongside shopping for the ultimate costume. So, before you buy horror costumes online, it’s best to determine the types of colors you take pleasure in wearing and select an idea around that. For example, if you favor shades of black, gray, or white, perhaps an antihero or villain such as Dracula, Darth Vader, or Beetlejuice would appease your appetite for an otherworldly horror costume. Whereas, those who adore more lively shades, like reds, oranges, and yellows, should consider being a clown, a superhero, or a pumpkin. It’s almost Halloween, which means anything goes at Nightmare Toys

Consider adding to your previous costumes

Have you worn a fearsome costume that has haunted your memories, even years later? Well, if you preserved this chilling garb, a couple of elements may be able to be used to create something new and devilishly dark. Not only will this save you money that can be spent adding to your horror decor collection but it will also allow you to relive what you loved about your past costume.

Other things to consider before you buy a horror costume online

Aside from the primary deciding factors above, you should also consider the following before you splurge and place your costume order.

  • Check the weather if you plan on spending time outdoors in your costume.
  • If you’ve considered a group costume, ensure that your members have committed to the idea before placing your order.
  • While it’s fun to represent a costume from another culture, be sure what you wearing won’t be considered appropriation.
  • Look for sales. Surprisingly, many online retailers use this time of year to clear out older styles to make room for popular, new ones.

Whether you’re on the haunt for adult costumes or a costume for your child and dog to wear this Halloween, be sure to peruse our assorted selection of creep-tastic garbs!

Decorating for Halloween early is a sign of happiness, study says

Posted on

Halloween is officially just over one month away, but the real question here is have you started preparing for it already? If the answer is yes, we have some news for you! A recent study revealed that spooktacular fanatics who decorate for the chills and thrills of the season early are likely healthier, happier people who’re more nostalgic and reluctant to let go of their childhood memories. So, if you’ve been tastefully buying horror collectibles online the past few weeks, or it’s a year-round hobby of yours, chances are your connection to creepy decor means that you’re a high-spirited ghoul!

The study

The study, published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, protested that people who put up decorations earlier than most in the year could be over-compensating for past disappointments in the holiday and are attempting to avoid it for the upcoming season. Participants of the study were shown houses that were covered in decorations and those that weren’t to assess their sociability. It turned out that those with decorations were deemed more friendly and cohesive. That being said, this led experts to believe that those who decorate for the Halloween season (and even Christmas) typically have a psychological make-up that allows them to lead more fulfilled lives.

What was the result?

Steven McKeown, founder of MindFixers, owner of The McKeown Clinic, and a psychoanalyst revealed that there’s nothing wrong with being excited about the holidays.

“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate with things that make them happy and Halloween decorations evoke these strong feelings of childhood.”

McKeown has thirty years worth of research to back his claim and concludes that eager individuals are simply tapping into the excitement of the spooky season.

“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate with things that make them happy and decorations are simply an anchor or a pathway to the magical emotions of excitement.”

Want to be happy?

See! You don’t need to feel bad about hoarding and buying horror collectibles online. In fact, break out the cobwebs and gruesome props and get them up and around your crypt this weekend.

Shop a wide assortment of the best horror collectibles and decor on the market at With everything from the most popular slasher villains, to ornaments with the ultimate blood and gore, this is your one-stop-shop for everything Halloween and beyond.

Which masks in horror cinema are the most memorable?

Posted on

Since the start of the pandemic, wearing masks has become the new normal, which was already part of the orderly routine of some of our favorite horror villains. While non-medical face masks are helping the world to slow the spread of COVID-19, we’re pretty certain that none of these face coverings are as spooktacular and memorable as those in horror cinema. Read below to find out how three of the most cherished masked villains got their claws on their emblematic facial coverings.

Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask

Before Jason acquired his iconic goaltender’s mask, the first installment (1980) and Part II (1982) he wore a burlap sack over his head that possessed a single eyehole. However, having lost his battle in Part III (1982), and his “mask”, after his struggle against victims Paul Holt and Ginny Field, Jason was forced to upgrade to a new look to cover his mauled face. He stole a Detroit Red Wings hockey mask which possessed a red arrowhead triangle between the eye holes and two red triangles on either side of the nose, pointing upwards diagonally towards the eyes. Later, that same mask would gain a diagonal crack above the left eye hole from the brunt force of an ax thrown by Chris Higgins.

Another interpretation surfaced in the reboot version of Friday the 13th (2009), showing that the Camp Crystal Lake mass murderer acquired his hockey mask from the character Donnie, who tore off Jason’s burlap sack. The enraged sociopath killed him and shortly after, found a Detroit Red Wings hockey mask inside a nearby crate, tried it on, and looked into the mirror. It mimicked the exact mask from Part III, although it was dingier with dirt and appeared to be more worn-out and faded than the original

Whether you’re an admirer of the Friday the 13th franchise or simply a diehard fan of the sport of hockey, there’s no denying that Jason’s iconic mask is among the most memorable and often purchased by the supporters who buy horror masks online!

Michael Myers’ white mask

Halloween franchise buffs know that Michael Myers murders his teenage sister Judith on Halloween night in 1963. However, many forget that his iconic white mask isn’t used until he escapes Smith’s Grove Sanitarium 15-years-later. While his first slaying was orchestrated behind a funny clown mask with greenish-blue eyeshadow and a bright red nose, cheeks, and chin, his future massacres would be conducted using the time-honored expressionless, featureless, white mask

In the original film of the series (1978), Michael escapes the mental institution to return to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois. Upon his breakout, Michael stole some Halloween masks, some rope, and a knife from Nichol’s Hardware Store, the same shop where his mom had purchased his clown costume all those years ago.

While Michael continues to wear the same style of mask throughout the franchise, each film has a slightly different version to fit the actor wearing it.

The hauntingly blank mask mimics Captain Kirk’s death mask from Star Trek, although, slightly altered to create an ominous look for the killer. Those who buy horror masks online have the choice between which “The Shape” mask they order, dependent upon their collection and personal taste towards the cherished movie.

Ghostfaces’ scream mask

While the identity of Ghostface varies between the eight sociopaths within the franchise, the mask is a symbol for the town of Woodsboro, and horror fans everywhere.

The earliest film of the Scream franchise was released in 1996, 5 years after the “Ghostface”  or “The Peanut-Eyed Ghost” costume first gained popularity among consumers as a Halloween ensemble. Consisting of a rubber white mask with black eyes, nose, and mouth, and a black, cloth-like material that is used as a hooded-robe with faux-tatters to drape over the arms and trim of the outfit, the novelty costume was easily purchasable and super common, creating the possibility for anyone to be the killer during the Woodsboro slayings.

Since Ghostface is rarely depicted as speaking, the personality and physical attributes are universal among killers who wear the costume, such as the ritualistic cleaning of the knife after each kill, the slashing of the throat of victims, the almost superhuman strength, and the rare grunt and groans when he/she is injured.

How about you? Have you ever concealed your identity behind the mask of this taunting villain?

Which of the above three masks has been most memorable for you? Drop a comment below to share with our other readers.

“Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends”: What we know so far

Posted on

Michael Myers fans rejoice because there’s some chilling news about the Halloween franchise. Director, John Carpenter has confirmed circulating rumors which means two sequels are set to follow the successful 2018 reboot. So, it’s time for you to start gripping your Michael Myers horror collectibles as tight as you can because you’re going to have an alarming two years anticipating the premieres of these upcoming horror films. The best part is that the first movie is already in the works.

Halloween Kills (2020)

Filming for “Halloween Kills” began early this month, placing it in theatres for October 16, 2020. The final scene from last year’s film ends with Laurie’s home engulfed in flames and a focused shot of the burnt basement containing Michael. Although, if you waited around for the credits to finish rolling you would have noticed the intense breathing, confirming that the infamous serial killer likely survived the events of the film — and that’s where “Halloween Kills” begins. How do we know that exactly? Well, you can thank Jamie Lee Curtis’ Instagram feed. One of the photos that she posted features her all bruised and beaten up. In fact, if you look closely at her injuries in the final scene of the reboot, the two are uncanny.

Halloween Ends (2021)

Since we don’t have the official plot and have only seen some online speculations, there isn’t really much to say about the final movie in the trilogy, “Halloween Ends”, other then we know that it will premiere a year later, on October 15, 2021.

Needless to say, while there isn’t a lot of information floating around at the moment, here at Nightmare Toys we’re incredibly excited and have ordered more Michael Myers horror collectibles to celebrate his undying return to the big screen.

What are your predictions for the upcoming horror films? Do you think Michael’s days of terrorizing Laurie will be over?

Our 5 favorite films to binge-watch before Halloween

Whether you prefer stand-alone films or haunting franchises with a grisly cult following, there are so many movies to go batty over as Halloween night inches closer. Needless to say, to the fans who’re obsessed enough to buy horror movies online to watch them year-round, or those who may be on the haunt for some horrifying tales to bewitch the senses, here are some of Nightmare Toys’ most cherished, binge-worthy contenders.

The Conjuring (2013)

While there are many alarming choices from The Conjuring Universe, none make the same bloodcurdling impression as the first installment in the creep-tastic franchise. For those who have it on their horror bucket list, The Conjuring is a supernatural film that follows a real-life telling of the experiences of the Perron family while living in their Rhode Island farmhouse in the ‘70s. It also gruesomely intertwines demonologists, Lorraine and Ed Warren, as they attempt to investigate these paranormal events.

Fans of the film should be pleased by our devilishly delightful collection of The Conjuring horror keepsakes, including Annabelle, The Nun, and The Crooked Man.

Coraline (2009)

Although Coraline is an animation that’s not particularly known for being frightening or gory, the reality is it has some grisly terrifying scenes that were inspired by age-old folktales. So, why hasn’t it been added to your must-watch Halloween list?

Of all the nightmarish monsters in this quivering horror film, none are more brilliantly creepy than, Other Mother. Thanks to Pop! Movies and Pop! Animation, we’ve got an otherworldly collection of Coraline mementos that add alluring diversity to your ever-growing horror collection. Ultimately, who can resist those button eyes?

Terrifier (2016)

Those looking for a slasher that’s bound to fog their dreams with frightening nightmares should relish in the bizarre darkness exhibited by the film, Terrifier. After all, who wouldn’t want to watch as an unnerving clown maniacally terrorizes his prey on all Hallows eve? Those who’re fans of the homicidal, Art the Clown, can even reanimate the beloved murderer with some of his cult collectibles — including a full-bodied costume, chilling mask, and even a dreadful tee designed to cloak their ghoulish charm.

Carrie (1976)

The days leading up to Halloween wouldn’t be the same if they didn’t include watching one of Stephen King’s iconic cult classics. That’s we recommend that you add Carrie to your list of alarmingly, bone-chilling horror films. An oldie, but a goodie, Carrie is an adaptation of the famed horror novel which follows a teen who faces bullying at school and parental abuse at home. Equipped with supernatural powers, she takes a malevolently dark turn for the worst, making the violent plot sequence a cackling good time for horror lovers.

If you buy horror movies online and haven’t already acquired this eerie addition, we’ve got an impressive DV that contains all the chilling bonus features. Although if your devotion extends beyond basic film collection, a bloody coffee mug or mini figurine may be enough to tame your loathing heart.

Chucky (1988 – 2019)

Whether you binge-watch the series or select a slasher favorite from the famed horror franchise, no countdown to Halloween could ever be complete without a heavy dosage of Chuck! After all, his voodoo-chanting is rather mesmerizing to worshipers of the notorious serial killer. So, grab yourself some popcorn and start decorating your crypt with your collection of Child’s Play action figures, horror movies pillows, and dolls, dead-icating your evening to the Good Guys!

Note that some of the above collectibles may be pre-order items and will be shipped on their scheduled dates.

Sexy horror costumes for sale

While the Halloween season is one of the best times to dress in gruesome costumes, it’s also the finest time of year to flaunt a sexy-inspired costume as well. Walk the walk and talk the talk outfitted as the poltergeist, Beetlejuice! You can also choose to resemble Adam or Barbara rather than the comedic ghost.

Although, for those who want to cross the hair-raising paths between gruesome and time-honoring, perhaps you’d prefer to rock the dreams of party-goers everywhere spiffed up as Freddy Krueger himself. Don’t forget to add the mask and glove to finish off your killer costume!

Now, as an individual who is extensively invested in organizing the most repulsive, ghastly gathering, you will need some eerie-sistable Halloween party supplies and a few screamy offerings to offer your fang-tastic guests. With a little help from Nightmare Toys, you will be well on your way to transforming your boring, ordinary home into a devilish haunting for all things demonic.

Decorate for the occasion

An enchanting costume simply won’t be enough if you plan to knock em’ dead at your very own Halloween party. For starters, you’ll need to cape your crypt and shine some moonlight onto your makeshift dance floor to get your gruesome guests to want to boo-gy. Next, clear off your coffee table and drape a bloodcurdling table cloth across it instead. Following by pinning up a welcome door cover, hanging a few morbid bits and pieces and clowning around by creeping up your wall with the most bizarre ornaments. If that’s not enough to show that you’re dead-icated then invite your visitors to indulge in an ice-cold beverage, chilling from beyond the grave.

Add a uniquely gruesome touch

Every spook-tacular monster bash needs a little extra darkness added to the mix. That being said, in order to truly get into the spirit, you’ll need to add some cookie batter to this mix of ghoulish cookie cutters. Aren’t they festive in the most edible way? If passing around devilish treats isn’t your style, then offer your guests to help themselves to a coffin candy bowl to hold their tasty treats in, or simply let Beetlejuice, Freddy Kreuger or Jason Voorhees thrill your trick-or-treaters. How petrifyingly practical?

halloween costumes

By now, all the true horror aficionados and supernatural fanatics have already chosen their Halloween costumes for an evening of devilish haunting, but for the ghastly oddballs that have waited until the final hour to cape themselves in spook-tacular jumpsuits, here are some of our darkest ideas for some wicked inspiration.

Dress up as the Addams family

Tantalize your love for the macabre and bloodcurdling torture by cloaking yourself in a casket, dressed as a member from the Addams family of course. Arrive to your haunting solo, or draft a group of hair-raising beings like yourself, wearing the grim attire of your favorite Addams family character. Sociopaths can have style after all. Bundle up in Gomaz Addams classy, striped garb, memorize mortals clothed in Morticia Addams black satin gown, creep around in the hooded robe of Uncle Fester or simply show off your sadistic personality dressed as Wednesday Addams.

Dress up as a superhero or villain

Although slipping on a superhero outfit won’t give you any superpowers, these Halloween costumes are always fun to drape on for an evening of unnerving festivities. The best part is the whole family can arrive decked out as a super squad. The Batgirl Deluxe Adult Costume is eerie-sistably awesome, complete with a cape and a dark, black mask, while the Batman Dark Knight Adult Deluxe Costume exhibits a more mysterious sense of fashion. The kids can even join in on the fun with batman-inspired costumes fit for newborns, toddlers and little youngsters.

As for the dark side you can masquerade around dressed like Suicide Squad’s Harley Quinn, the notorious master jedi Darth Vader or the vulgar serial killer Captain Spaulding.

Dress up as a caveman

You can never go wrong adorning yourself as a caveman or cavewoman. After all, who doesn’t love wearing the comfy, robe-like garb of our fire-wielding ancestors? Yet, Halloween costumes are supposed to possess a sense of uniqueness as well. Show up to your frightening celebratory event dressed up like the comical, primitive characters from Bedrock. Pair up as Barney and Betty Rubble or go the more classic route and dress up as Fred and Wilma Flintstone! YABA-DABA-DOO!

Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween Safety Tips

As Halloween approaches, we’re all starting to make (or finalize, for the keener ones) our Halloween plans. And while Halloween is a fun holiday, with loads of room for creativity and excitement, it’s also a good time to reflect on some safety precautions, so that this fun night doesn’t turn into a real-life horror movie.

Caution When Driving on Halloween Night

One of the biggest parts of Halloween is trick-or-treating, something that kids of all ages look forward to for days or weeks. However, there are more children run over by vehicles on Halloween than any other night in the year. So, if you’re driving, make sure to go slowly and pay special attention to the road. Be aware that children will be wearing costumes that might not be super visible in the dark, and be especially careful that there are no stragglers from the groups.

High-Visibility Clothing

As a parent, it’s a good idea to incorporate some high-visibility clothing into your child’s costume, even if it’s just a few small bits. You might be going with them, but you know better than anyone how quick kids can be in giving you the slip, whether purposely or not.

Brief Children on Safety

Make sure your children are well versed in the rules of the road. If you’re not going trick or treating with them yourself, give them a buddy system among their friends or siblings, and remind them of stranger danger. And going back to those costumes – not all costumes, or parts of costumes, are as easy to move in as their regular clothes. Even a flapping cape, or a long sheet for a ghost, could trip a child running across the road. Make sure those costumes are properly fitted, and that any loose parts don’t become a hindrance.

House Safety

Finally, don’t neglect house safety. Make sure pets are inside; they could become overwhelmed and aggressive with so many people around, especially if there are fireworks. Be careful of decorations, making sure not to overload electrical sockets or to put too many heavy decorations in an area where extra weight won’t be supported. And hopefully, it goes without saying, but if you’re hosting a party, make sure no underage guests get hold of alcohol, and order a few taxis at the end of the night if there aren’t enough designated drivers.

But above all, have fun! Halloween only comes once a year, and there’s a reason it’s such a popular holiday for people of all ages.

Creepy Clown Sightings

Creepy Clown Sightings

Clowns, on the one hand, are seen as comic performers, entertaining children and adults alike at birthday parties with their funny antics and party tricks. On the other hand, though, the same outlandishly dressed characters, with their white-painted faces, distinctive makeup, and oversized wigs evoke dread and fear in so many of us.

In 2016, a petrifying creepy clown craze swept the U.S., Canada, Europe, and even parts of Asia, with pranksters dressed as scary clowns terrorizing unsuspecting people near parks and playgrounds. The phenomenon ultimately died down, but recently, following the release of It, the eponymous movie adaptation of Stephen King’s horror book featuring Pennywise, the sadistic, shape-shifting clown, it is experiencing a revival.

Sightings of menacing clowns have, once again, been reported across the country. In Greenville, South Carolina, police received numerous reports of creepy clown sightings, suspicious characters, dressed in clown attire trying to scare children by whispering and making strange noises in the woods.

In addition to creepy clown sightings, lone red balloons tied to storm drains and sewer grates popped up all over the world, in anticipation of the record-shattering horror blockbuster, the single red balloon being a symbol of Pennywise’s proximity to its victims.

While this may seem like social media and mass hysteria blowing things out of proportion, for many, this is no laughing matter. While there are a number of children and adults who have a reasonable apprehension of clowns, for those with coulrophobia, the clinical term for an irrational fear of clowns, this can be a particularly traumatizing experience, resulting in symptoms similar to those of a panic attack.

So, while we don’t condone scaring innocent people with nightmarish clown costumes on any ordinary day, we do think that such a getup is apt for our favorite spooky event of the year, Halloween! If you’ve been dying to impress your friends and family at this year’s Halloween party, we’ve got the perfect officially-licensed Pennywise clown costume for you, available in extra small, standard, and extra-large sizes. If you prefer a DIY costume, we’ve even got the makeup and wig for you.

Horror Movie Inspired Halloween Costume Ideas for Men

Halloween costumes can come in all shapes and sizes, from Humpty Dumpty, to Captain Hook, to a giant fried egg, if that’s what you’re into. It being Halloween, though, and the time for all things scary, why not go for some of the greatest villains in horror movies? They’re classic, they’re spooky, and they’re far more interesting than that skeleton outfit you’ve got hidden away in the attic. Consider some of these options, and then enjoy Halloween the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed – by terrifying people when you jump out of a dark alley.

Michael Myers, Halloween

It’s Halloween, so let’s take our first piece of inspiration from the Halloween series. Michael Myers is a classic and easy to put together costume for the more low-maintenance among us. This costume really just needs three things: a mask, a dark-colored jumpsuit, and a prop machete. With minimal effort, you still get maximum effect, as you channel the terror that is Michael Myers. This costume is creepy and horrifying, and sure to get some compliments. Pro tip: if you really want to go all out for the creepy factor, just add a bit of fake blood to the knife.

Freddy Krueger, A Nightmare on Elm Street

This is another of the Halloween costume ideas for men that is straightforward and classic. With a striped sweater, a hat, a mask, and a hand prop, you can really get under the skin of one of cinema’s most enduring villains. There’s a reason there are so many movies about Freddy Krueger, and that reason makes him the perfect costume for Halloween.

Hannibal Lecter, The Silence of the Lambs

Once again, a mask is the main ingredient in this costume idea. What can I say? Some of the greatest horror movie villains wear masks. It’s a theme. Anyway, complete this outfit with an orange jumpsuit, or even a straitjacket if you really want to go for it. Hell, you could even get your friend to dress up as a guard, who could wheel you around in a trolley. Actually, that’s a double win, as you’d have a kick-ass costume, and you’d get wheeled around all night.

Pennywise, It

We couldn’t do a post about Halloween costume ideas for men without including Pennywise.  If you really want to catch the current mood, then this one’s a no-brainer. It’s also pretty easy to put together, with since the Pennywise costume comes complete with a clown suit, a wig, and a character mask!

Satisfy Your Appetite for Horror with These 5 Cult Movies

With Halloween just two months away, we are making our list of top five cult horror movies to get us in the mood for the macabre. Do you dare to watch these?

The Exorcist

There is nothing quite as frightening as the idea of demonic possession, but the demonic possession of a child? That is definitely the stuff nightmares are made of. In this terrifying cult horror movie, based loosely on real events, Regan MacNeil, possessed by the devil changes from a sweet young child to a levitating, body-contorting, profanity spewing, vile manifestation of the devil. Shudder with terror as you watch the hair-raising exorcism scenes and the famous 180-degree head turn.

The Shining

Here’s another great horror classic to put you in the mood for Halloween. A chilling adaptation of the Stephen King novel, The Shining, this psychological thriller follows Jack Torrance, a writer who moves to an isolated hotel with his family to take care of the establishment. Filled with psychic premonitions and visions, the movie terrifies audiences as the main character becomes gradually possessed by a malevolent presence. Gnaw your nails off as you unravel the dark secrets of the hotel.

Another terrifying adaptation a Stephen King horror novel, Carrie is the revenge fantasy story of a sensitive and reserved teen named Carrie White. Cruelly ridiculed by her classmates and verbally abused by her repressive and psychotic mother, Carrie discovers her telekinetic powers brought on by the onset of adolescence. Events quickly start to deteriorate as she clashes with her religiously fanatic mother and her sadistic classmates. Following a brutally humiliating prank at the high school prom, Carrie unleashes her fury on everyone who has ever taunted her.

This movie follows the story of a regular family whose home is haunted by a Poltergeist. When ten-year old Carol Anne first hears a voice emanating from the TV set, she initially mistakes it for that of a playful child, but soon things take a turn for the worse, and the voices become angry and menacing, eventually pulling Carol Anne into their world. Watch with dread as the parents seek the help of an exorcist to liberate their child from the clutches of evil.

When Marion Crane, a secretary on the run after stealing money from her employer, decides to sojourn at the Bates Motel, she meets Norman Bates, a polite, yet bizarre young man skilled at taxidermy, who has a complicated and tumultuous relationship with his mother. This complex psychological thriller features a cleverly executed amalgam of voyeurism, Oedipal tendencies, dark imagery, and perverted secrets that will have you jumping out of your seat.
