All the costume essentials your dark soul can bare

Posted on

Since Halloween is just around the corner, it’s time to awaken your inner demons to select a spine-chilling horror costume for all your forthcoming frightful festivities. So, since it’s hauntingly possible that you’re stuck on the decision to dress up as a repulsive creature or a startling entity, as long as your unearthly spirit is bathed in darkness, Nightmare Toys has a costume that’s bound to make you cackle with ghoulish delight.

Scary horror costumes for sale

There are so many spooktacular options for horror lovers looking to achieve a scare factor. After all, how often can you dress menacingly insane, go out in public and passersby won’t even bat an eye? As ghastly as that is, how do you decide which scary costume to play devilish dress-up with?

While clowns are usually associated with cheap thrills, the American Horror Story’s Twisty the Clown costume is something nightmares are made from. Featuring a one-size-fits-all, white-puffed suit with red and yellow poms and a vibrant trim, you’ll be ready to get your creep on. Just don’t forget to grab yourself the mask of the dreaded carnival freak, with an intense special effect making the mouthpiece removable to expose the grim extent of his deformity.

If clowning around isn’t your style, how about “puppeting” around instead? Drape the apparel of the terrifying Saw Pilly Puppet costume and start informing your peers about the rules and instructions of their deadly games.

Funny horror costumes for sale

Why is the rum always gone by the time you make your way to your ghoulish gathering? Well, that’s probably because you opted to dress as a pirate this Halloween and you’re taking your role as captain super seriously! Although if you’re the type of person who struggles to remember the basics of pirate lingo, maybe you’d prefer to break the ice at your shindig dressed as an inflatable pteranodon? You’ll look roarsome when you spread your wings for hugs and high fives.

Sexy horror costumes for sale

While the Halloween season is one of the best times to dress in gruesome costumes, it’s also the finest time of year to flaunt a sexy-inspired costume as well. Ladies, if a seductive nurse or provocative cat doesn’t make your costume cut, why not consider the charming allure of a Day of the Dead Senorita costume or simply pull your hair back into pigtails and dress up as a desired schoolgirl, outfitted as Wednesday Addams? Gentlemen, you can try to woe all the women in your Iron Man or gladiator costume ensembles.

Iconic horror costumes for sale

It doesn’t get more iconic than getting the opportunity to dress up as your favorite horror character, so why not take advantage of the next month by slowly preparing and adding to an out-of-this-world look? Walk the walk and talk the talk outfitted as the poltergeist, Beetlejuice! You can also choose to resemble Adam or Barbara rather than the comedic ghost.

Although, for those who want to cross the hair-raising paths between gruesome and time-honoring, perhaps you’d prefer to rock the dreams of party-goers everywhere spiffed up as Freddy Krueger himself. Don’t forget to add the mask and glove to finish off your killer costume!

Embellish Your Work Desk with These Horror Collectibles

horror collectibles

No matter how some may try, it’s often difficult to fully separate from work – it’s where we spend a great amount of time. Whether you need something to play with during a break, a trinket to entertain you while working (we won’t tell!), or simply just want to spruce up a mundane work area, there are plenty of horror collectibles that will appeal to your spooky soul.

Knockers, POP!, and Potato Heads

POP! and vinyl figures are perfect for dressing up a desk! You can put a singular icon, such as Michael Myers or Hannibal Lecter beside the pencil sharpener, or create a neat little montage of Walking Dead or Stranger Things faves (hey, mix them up together!) Set up “what-if” confrontations between POP! Cthulhu, Dorbz Pennywise, and Chucky, or Five Nights at Freddy’s characters up against Jack Torrance! And don’t forget to add some holiday sentiments to your workspace with Krampus!

If tabletop space allows, or you have shelving, the Freddy vs Jason Head Knockers are really cool! They’re over 7-inches tall, are intricately detailed, and work as great lightweight bookends if placed separately, or as a stand-out uniform centerpiece.

Do you have a no-nonsense work ethic, or handle your shift very Zen-like? Let bobbleheads express your serious side, such as the very stoic Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock (holding one of his birds), or everyone’s favorite bad-ass Negan, with his trusty Lucille. If you sit near a window, show off your appreciation for light-hearted killer humor, with the solar-powered Michael Myers or Freddy body knockers. You can also put up 5-inch Poptater Mr. Potato Head versions of these guys, but you may have to compete with colleagues and clients for a chance to play with these delightfully frightful toys!

Pens, Keychains, and HorrorNaments

There are more subtle ways to sneak creepy elements into your décor if you can’t display figures or considerably noticeable horror collectibles. Include a Leatherface, Freddy, Chucky, or Jason POP! Pen in your desk organizer or find spots you can dangle a keychain or HorrorNament from. Hang 3D Comic-Con Exclusive Lydia, Beetlejuice, and Sandworm keychains from magnetic hooks attached to your under-desk filing cabinet. Or for a little impish effect, prop the StayPuft Marshmallow Man and Nightmare Before Christmas Sally alongside your monitor. Likewise, our horror-themed ornament selections include the Jaed Demers Snowman, Kane Hoddet Casket, and Linnea Quigley Witch, for year-round embellishment!

Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween Safety Tips

As Halloween approaches, we’re all starting to make (or finalize, for the keener ones) our Halloween plans. And while Halloween is a fun holiday, with loads of room for creativity and excitement, it’s also a good time to reflect on some safety precautions, so that this fun night doesn’t turn into a real-life horror movie.

Caution When Driving on Halloween Night

One of the biggest parts of Halloween is trick-or-treating, something that kids of all ages look forward to for days or weeks. However, there are more children run over by vehicles on Halloween than any other night in the year. So, if you’re driving, make sure to go slowly and pay special attention to the road. Be aware that children will be wearing costumes that might not be super visible in the dark, and be especially careful that there are no stragglers from the groups.

High-Visibility Clothing

As a parent, it’s a good idea to incorporate some high-visibility clothing into your child’s costume, even if it’s just a few small bits. You might be going with them, but you know better than anyone how quick kids can be in giving you the slip, whether purposely or not.

Brief Children on Safety

Make sure your children are well versed in the rules of the road. If you’re not going trick or treating with them yourself, give them a buddy system among their friends or siblings, and remind them of stranger danger. And going back to those costumes – not all costumes, or parts of costumes, are as easy to move in as their regular clothes. Even a flapping cape, or a long sheet for a ghost, could trip a child running across the road. Make sure those costumes are properly fitted, and that any loose parts don’t become a hindrance.

House Safety

Finally, don’t neglect house safety. Make sure pets are inside; they could become overwhelmed and aggressive with so many people around, especially if there are fireworks. Be careful of decorations, making sure not to overload electrical sockets or to put too many heavy decorations in an area where extra weight won’t be supported. And hopefully, it goes without saying, but if you’re hosting a party, make sure no underage guests get hold of alcohol, and order a few taxis at the end of the night if there aren’t enough designated drivers.

But above all, have fun! Halloween only comes once a year, and there’s a reason it’s such a popular holiday for people of all ages.

Horror Movie Inspired Halloween Costume Ideas for Men

Halloween costumes can come in all shapes and sizes, from Humpty Dumpty, to Captain Hook, to a giant fried egg, if that’s what you’re into. It being Halloween, though, and the time for all things scary, why not go for some of the greatest villains in horror movies? They’re classic, they’re spooky, and they’re far more interesting than that skeleton outfit you’ve got hidden away in the attic. Consider some of these options, and then enjoy Halloween the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed – by terrifying people when you jump out of a dark alley.

Michael Myers, Halloween

It’s Halloween, so let’s take our first piece of inspiration from the Halloween series. Michael Myers is a classic and easy to put together costume for the more low-maintenance among us. This costume really just needs three things: a mask, a dark-colored jumpsuit, and a prop machete. With minimal effort, you still get maximum effect, as you channel the terror that is Michael Myers. This costume is creepy and horrifying, and sure to get some compliments. Pro tip: if you really want to go all out for the creepy factor, just add a bit of fake blood to the knife.

Freddy Krueger, A Nightmare on Elm Street

This is another of the Halloween costume ideas for men that is straightforward and classic. With a striped sweater, a hat, a mask, and a hand prop, you can really get under the skin of one of cinema’s most enduring villains. There’s a reason there are so many movies about Freddy Krueger, and that reason makes him the perfect costume for Halloween.

Hannibal Lecter, The Silence of the Lambs

Once again, a mask is the main ingredient in this costume idea. What can I say? Some of the greatest horror movie villains wear masks. It’s a theme. Anyway, complete this outfit with an orange jumpsuit, or even a straitjacket if you really want to go for it. Hell, you could even get your friend to dress up as a guard, who could wheel you around in a trolley. Actually, that’s a double win, as you’d have a kick-ass costume, and you’d get wheeled around all night.

Pennywise, It

We couldn’t do a post about Halloween costume ideas for men without including Pennywise.  If you really want to catch the current mood, then this one’s a no-brainer. It’s also pretty easy to put together, with since the Pennywise costume comes complete with a clown suit, a wig, and a character mask!

The Ultimate Goth Checklist for a Day at the Beach

The Ultimate Goth Checklist for a Day at the Beach - How to Be Goth at the Beach

Yes, you read that right! With summer in full swing, we’re sharing with you the ultimate goth checklist for a day at the beach. If you think that goths spend their summer days sorrowfully lamenting the sunshine, think again. While a gothic persuasion does imply a bit more preparation than that of your typical beachgoer, there is no reason for goths to deprive themselves of the beach. So, without further ado, here are a few tips on how to be goth at the beach:

1) High SPF Sunscreen

To enjoy the warm rays of the sun without sacrificing your beautiful, porcelain skin, pack the highest SPF sunscreen that you can get a hold of. Think SPF 50 or greater. Apply liberally both before and while at the beach to maintain your gothic complexion.

2) A Parasol

Regardless of the strength of the sunscreen, one can only endure a limited amount of time in direct sunlight, so an indispensable tool to help you protect your skin is a parasol. Not only will it prevent you from overheating, but it can also double as a stylish beach accessory.

3) A Book

There is nothing quite like getting lost in a captivating gothic novel or fantasy while relaxing at the beach. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, available in hardcover format on our website.

4) Appropriate Clothing

What you pack in terms of clothing or what you wear will depend on whether you’re planning on taking it easy under your parasol or frolicking in the water. To keep cool, wear a light tee, in your favorite shade of black, of course.

5) Beach towel

We’re not talking about your generic, run-of-the-mill beach towel littered with pictures of tropical flowers and flamingos. Instead, chill out to the max on these fantastic coffin beach towels that ooze darkness and mystery.

6) Games

Sure, they may bring on stares from onlookers, but one has to pack lifestyle-appropriate entertainment even if they are a touch unconventional to most. Plus, who says you have to fit in at the beach?

7) Food and Drinks

Goths get hungry too, so make sure to pack ample snacks and drinks along to stay nourished and hydrated throughout your day. Skip the garden-variety beach totes and opt for these seriously cool purses and this badass lunchbox.
