Scream VI: Everything we know so far

A mere short year after Ghostface returns to wreak havoc on a group of teenagers and resurrect secrets from Woodsboro’s deadly past, four survivors leave the town for a fresh start in New York City. But the bloody rampage follows them, along with everyone’s favorite knife-wielding murderer. While this installment has been reinvented by new directors to appeal to the next generation, many of the beloved original cast members will return to ensure it's also nostalgic for others. Here is everything we know so far about the film, including which Ghostface collectibles you can get your hands on.

Which cast members are returning? 

Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera are resuming their roles as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter. Courtney Cox, who has appeared in all five previous installments, will also be returning to reprise her role as Gale Weathers. Lastly, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown will be returning to play their role as twin siblings who survived Scream V. 

Unfortunately, neither Neve Campbell—the infamous Sidney Prescott— or David Arquette will be returning for the next movie. Campbell is out due to negotiations and Arquette’s…character was killed in the last film. 

What is the plot about?

Picking up where the last installment left off, Scream VI will begin with Tara, Mindy, Chad, and Sam heading to New York City. With Ghostface leaving Woodsboro for the first time, horror fans can expect the new film to be a bit more intimidating than its predecessors due to unknown territory. Although, as with the times, it’s also expected to be more gory, aggressive, and violent. 

Directors of Scream V tip-toed around the script, trying to be respectful of what the franchise had been up until this point, but now that they have gotten their toes wet, they let their freak flags fly with this new movie.

When will Scream VI be released?

Scream VI will be released in theaters on March 10, 2023. 2022's Scream is currently available to stream on Paramount+.
