From an ancient fort-like city built in the 17th century to the most haunted bed and breakfast in the southern USA, there are numerous haunted travel destinations around the world that known for their paranormal activity and unexplained supernatural happenings. We’ve crafted a list of a few of our favorite spooktacular locations for those horror fanatics who relish in the idea of skeptic experiences.

Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan, India

These 400-year-old ruins consist of walls, bazaars, havelis (a traditional Indian townhouse), royal palaces and numerous temples to explore. During the day, the fortress is bustling with tourists, but when the sun sets in the evening, this architectural site is known to be the most hauntingly possessed fort in all of India.

Supposedly, the ghosts that haunt the site are said to of a wizard, Singhia, and of a princess, Ratnavati who turned down his overpowering advances. The legend is that Singhia possessed an enchanted oil that he wanted to use to make the princess fall deeply in love with him. When she threw it away, it magically turned into a boulder and crushed him. But, with his dying breath, he cursed the palace, condemning all of its inhabitants to death.

Locals believe that anyone who spends a night at the ‘House of Ghosts’ will never be seen alive again.

Myrtles Plantation, St. Francisville, Louisiana

This old-timey site in the small town of St. Francisville holds its own ghostly tale. Apparently, ten people were murdered in the mansion and their ghosts have been sited at various ends of the property. Known as the most haunted house in America, the now bed and breakfast offers ghost tours and even overnight accommodation for those who are brave enough to stay.

Ancient Ram Inn, Gloucestershire, England

As one of the most haunted travel destinations and oldest spiritual sites on our ghastly list, the Ancient Ram Inn was used by priests in the 12th century. It was also reported to be the scene of child sacrifice and loads of devil worshiping. Legend foretells that the inn was a portal for dark energy. Witches, a high priestess, a centurion on horseback, monks, a succubus and agonizing screams are among some of the dreadful sights and sounds that still haunt the old building.

Banff Springs Hotel, Alberta, Canada

Surely considered one of Canada’s most scenic hotels, it is also considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in the country. There were many unexpected deaths and murders that were reported in the hotel including, a bride who fell down the stairs in an apparent panic can be seen dancing with flames around her dress in the hotel ballroom. While the family that was murdered in room 873 can still be seen walking throughout the hallways even though their room has been bricked closed. Yet, tourists and locals alike continue to stay at this iconic landmark year-round.

Dragsholm Slot, Denmark

Another haunted building that has been transformed into a modern-day hotel, the Dragsholm Castle, originally built in 1215, is one of the oldest castles in all of Scandinavia. It was once ruled by nobles to house their prisoners, whose ghostly spirits have remained after their deaths. Over 100 ghosts have been spotted in the area including the Earl of Bothwell (the husband of Mary Queen of Scotts) and the White Lady whose skeleton was found encased in the walls in 1930. This lavish hotel is open for ghost tours, a local gourmet feast and even a two-night stay for those who are seeking a truly terrifying experience.
