As we creep into September we can all agree that the unofficial start of the spooky season has commenced, and with Halloween just around the corner, the movie industry is bustling with releases to get fans into the spirit. If you’re on the haunt for some new horror movies coming soon, perhaps the following four flicks will appease your black heart.

#1: Martyrs Lane (September 9, 2021, on Shudder)

This paranormal addition is a Shudder original and follows the tale of 10-year-old, Leah, who’s living in a large vicarage full of restless spirits. While the building is bustling with people by day, at night it’s dark hard to sleep as the ambiance slowly creeps into her dreams, becoming nightmares. While one of the ghosts brings comfort to Leah’s emptiness, information passed between the two puts her in grave danger.

#2: Malignant (September 10, 2021)

James Wan, the director responsible for hit franchises Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring Universe, returns his roots to bring, Malignant, to theatres. Following the story of a woman who experiences horrific nightmares nightly that turn out to be a looking glass into actual events, Madison must dig deep into her past to uncover how her visions are related to an imaginary friend. Why has she suppressed his memory and what does he want with her now? Any horror fans out there ready to watch this murder mystery?

#3: Prisoners of the Ghostland (September 17, 2021)

When you hear the name Nicolas Cage, your mind immediately wanders to his dark and strange horror installments, and this thriller western is nothing out of his typical realm. Prisoner and protagonist Hero must travel to a supernatural land to rescue the granddaughter of the Samurai Town’s Governor. To ensure that he feels motivated, he is equipped with self-destructive bombs and is given five days to save her. Decide for yourself if the following film is wild or weird on the big screen in a couple of weeks!

#4: Night of the Animated Dead (September 21, 2021)

Zombie lovers rejoice! As one of the many new horror movies coming soon you’ll get a taste of marauding ghouls in this up-and-coming animated flick. Created in the same style as The Walking Dead comic book, this animated retelling closely follows the original Night of the Living Dead script, gore and all. Whether you prefer groaning, lurching, or brain-eating, this remake checks all of the following boxes and more.
