Decorating for Halloween early is a sign of happiness, study says
Halloween is officially just over one month away, but the real question here is have you started preparing for it already? If the answer is yes, we have some news for you! A recent study revealed that spooktacular fanatics who decorate for the chills and thrills of the season early are likely healthier, happier people who’re more nostalgic and reluctant to let go of their childhood memories. So, if you’ve been tastefully buying horror collectibles online the past few weeks, or it’s a year-round hobby of yours, chances are your connection to creepy decor means that you’re a high-spirited ghoul!
The study
The study, published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, protested that people who put up decorations earlier than most in the year could be over-compensating for past disappointments in the holiday and are attempting to avoid it for the upcoming season. Participants of the study were shown houses that were covered in decorations and those that weren’t to assess their sociability. It turned out that those with decorations were deemed more friendly and cohesive. That being said, this led experts to believe that those who decorate for the Halloween season (and even Christmas) typically have a psychological make-up that allows them to lead more fulfilled lives.
What was the result?
Steven McKeown, founder of MindFixers, owner of The McKeown Clinic, and a psychoanalyst revealed that there’s nothing wrong with being excited about the holidays.
“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate with things that make them happy and Halloween decorations evoke these strong feelings of childhood.”
McKeown has thirty years worth of research to back his claim and concludes that eager individuals are simply tapping into the excitement of the spooky season.
“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate with things that make them happy and decorations are simply an anchor or a pathway to the magical emotions of excitement.”
