While there many franchises that hauntingly stack up to create a cult-like following within the horror genre, there is also a universe of chilling movies and horror collectibles that continue to cast a very fang-tastic shadow. While The Conjuring film franchise is a rather bizarre anomaly, it’s slowly creeping up on the demonic darkness of the Stephen King universe. Needless to say, if you possess a blackened soul from your love of horror, relish in the bloodcurdling plot sequences and alarming apparitions that have come from The Conjuring world. Perhaps we can even catch you in our cobweb of fun facts?

James Wan is a name behind the Conjuring Universe

As the director of the Saw franchise, the Insidious franchise, Fast and Furious 7 and Aquaman, James Wan has been heavily involved in creating an extended world around The Conjuring. He believes that since there is a superhero universe where all the protectors and foes have individual stories and then crossover movies where they are defending the world together, that the horror genre could also possess this systematic diversity as well — a universe of stories, plot sequences and frightening entities.

Ed and Lorraine Warren help to tie the films together

Historically speaking, the Warrens are the real-life ghostbusters and their documented accounts of paranormal activity are one of the reasons that their story was snatched up for the franchise. Since this couple was notably made famous through their paranormal investigations, it made sense to interlink their life into the making of multiple poltergeist manifestations. And since there is so much material to work with, this is one of the reasons that Wan believed there was a capacity to create an entire universe.

The introduction of the Annabelle doll

Introduced in the first feature film, this real-life, gruesome relic started out as just a piece of haunted memorabilia placed within the “artefact room” of the Warren’s home. Needless to say, the grim interest from fans is part of the reason that filmmakers were keen on giving her a shot in the spotlight. After the 2014 success of the film, Annabelle, two more movies followed, including the most recent release entitled, Annabelle Comes Home.

The Conjuring Universe spin-offs

Spin-offs like The Nun, Crooked Man, and The Curse of La Llorona, as well as the short film, The Nurse, featured wildly popular characters that were so grim that they received their own notch, and even replicas in the form of horror collectibles, in The Conjuring Universe belt. However, of the three spin-offs, The Nun proved to be the most popular. With the simple, yet effective demon Valak taking on the form of a religious nun who stalks a monastery in Romania. Although this spooky entity doesn’t play a major role in The Conjuring 2 or Annabelle Creation, it was a horrifying enough for the cameos to warrant a movie.
