His home will become a retreat for writers

Mid-October, Rolling Stone reported that Stephen and wife Tabatha King applied to re-zone their iconic home in Bangor, Maine, with hopes of transforming it into a non-profit archive and writers’ retreat. After being unanimously approved by the city’s council, the residence may soon receive its first group researchers and scholars. While this opportunity will be by appointment only, five writers at a time will be invited to retreat to the property and use the home as an archival resource while they aspire to write their horror novels. However, with the plans roughly one to two years away from operation, King wishes that the home will remain a quiet tourist attraction for fans passing by.

• King has used Maine as the setting for many of his horror novels. More importantly, the town of Derry from his book IT was inspired by his real-life home in Bangor, Maine. 
• King barely remembers writing the novel, Cujo, as much of the ‘80s was spent overcoming his battle with drug and alcohol addiction. 
• The Thing from the Tomb by H.P. Lovecraft was the book that sparked his interest in becoming a horror writer. 
• He was in a band composed of other successful authors, including Amy Tan, Dave Barry, Mitch Albom, Barbara Kingsolver, Matt Groening, and Ridley Pearson. 
• He purchased the van that struck him in 1999 and took a sledgehammer to it. 
• His childhood friend was struck and killed by a train, to which he adapted this real-life experience when writing his novel, The Body. 
• King has published seven novels under the pseudonym “Richard Bachman”.
• AC/DC and The Ramones are two of the writer’s favorite bands.
