Midsummer Scream Turned up the Terror in Long Beach
The Midsummer Scream Halloween Festival, a collaboration between CreepyLA and Theme Park Adventure, returned to the Long Beach Convention Center on July 29 and 30, even bigger, bolder, and more terrifying than the debut event last year.
The two-day, spooktacular festival attracted thousands of Halloween and horror fans who just couldn’t wait until the fall to satisfy their voracious appetite for terror. Of course, attendees did not pass up the opportunity to dress up as their beloved horror creatures; demons, werewolves, vampires, zombies, witches, goblins, creepy clowns, and all the otherworldly monsters you are too afraid to imagine were all in attendance at this jam-packed event.
Despite a few hiccups, namely traffic and parking issues resulting from the record-breaking attendance and a few delayed starts, the event was an immense success. Featuring a remarkable array of renowned industry figures such as Cassandra Peterson, better known to her fans as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Midsummer Scream provided guests with the opportunity to interact with their favorite icons.
Panel members such as Knott’s Scary Farm, Dark Harbor, Halloween Horror Nights, and Fright Fest delighted fans with exciting news and exclusive behind-the-scenes. Attendees also had the chance to attend marvelous haunt-creation workshops for both beginner and veteran haunt creators and spooky screenings of horror movies and short videos.
Fans of immersive haunted experiences relished various themed escape rooms, hair-raising mazes, and scary horror-themed shows, including the Hall of Shadows, a petrifying 30-000 square-foot dark zone for which there were long lineups, a testament to its popularity.
Midsummer Scream also delivered solid live entertainment and top-notch horror performance art from groups such as Zombie Joe’s, Force of Nature Productions, and Decayed Brigade, whose gravity-defying acrobatics enthralled the audience.
