2 films to watch or rewatch if you love jump scares

There are a lot of elements that come together to make a great horror movie—spooky creature or murderer, a good storyline, and a grim environment—but if you don’t have eerie jump scares steering your film, all the gore, slash, and torture aren’t enough to move that plot along. The two jump scare movies below are riddled with all the components of horror needed to make our noteworthy list. Check them out!

#1: The Conjuring (2013)

In a film where paranormal investigators assist a family that’s terrorized by a dark presence, there are bound to be some jump scares. However, the best part about the first installment in this bone-chilling franchise is that there are twelve startling spooks within its 112 minutes, and since they begin after the 30-minute mark, there’s about one scare per 6.8 minutes. Now that’s a jump scare movie!

For ultimate horror fans looking to rewatch this time-honored classic, here’s where you can expect to be spooked:

• 00:03:36 – There is a loud bang that startles the two girls.
• 00:32:52 – The door to the girl’s bedroom is slammed shut.
• 00:37:06 – Carolyn searches the house and a loud bang flares up from paintings that are falling off the wall.
• 00:39:10 – Carolyn enters the basement and as she goes to leave the door is slammed in her face.
• 00:40:38- Hands clap behind Carolyn while down in the basement
• 00:42:30 – A monster appears in the corner of the girl’s closet
• 01:07:28 – A sheet is blown off the clothesline and catches a mysterious figure.
• 01:12:40 – Roger is leaving a room and a woman’s voice shouts “look what you made me do!”
• 01:18:59 – Lorraine pulls away the music box revealing a creepy old lady nestled behind it.
• 01:19:21 – Legs fall down from the side of the table as Lorraine looks out from underneath.
• 01:20:30 – Nancy’s hair is pulled.
• 01:25:13 – One of the children gets pulled in their bed.

#2: Dead Silence (2007)

While this horror installment insinuates a rather muted experience, as number two on our list of jump scare movies, one can’t expect to be frighteningly thrilled. Although this genre favorite is a stand-alone film, it has 15 grueling jump scares to appease adorers. After all, if the arrival of a creepy doll isn’t scary enough, its murderous inclinations might be.

That said, one can expect jump scares throughout the entire 89-minute movie:

• 00:09:18 – The sheet on top of the doll lifts and wraps around Lisa.
• 00:25:49 – Jamie sees the doll standing beside his bed.
• 00:26:15 – Jamie sees an old lady behind the curtain.
• 00:28:46 – As the camera flashes, an image of Lisa’s dead face appears on the screen.
• Jamie sees the doll in the driver’s side window of the car.
• 00:35:22 – Jamie comes out of the bathroom and sees the doll.
• 00:46:29 – Young Henry sees Mary’s dead body lying beside him.
• 00:53:49 – The reflection of a dead lady is seen in the mirror.
• 00:57:56 – Henry turns around and sees Mary Shaw behind him.
• 01:06:50 – Detective Lipton begins speaking behind Jamie.
• 01:11:40 – The dead boy’s head jerks back.
• 01:18:17 – Detective Lipton’s dead body comes out from behind the curtain
• 01:18:46 – Jamie sees Mary Shaw’s face as he tried to climb back to the bridge.
