3 horror films to get excited about this year
A lot of things are uncertain as we carefully creep into the start of a new year, but if there’s one thing we do know, it’s that the best new horror movies of many time-honored franchises are set to grace big screens and streaming sources in the months ahead. Hold onto the darkness and mark your calendars because we’ve got three horror films you’re likely dying to see this year.
Scream: January 14, 2022
The highly anticipated fifth film of this franchise hits the big screens today, and after 11 years and tons of officially licensed merch, horror fans can’t help but be psyched to welcome another Ghostface sega. Titled, Scream, the new installment welcomes back franchise favorites Courtney Cox (Gale Weathers), David Arquette (Dewey Riley), and Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott) alongside new casting characters to make one of the best new horror movies of the year. Although this film will have much of the same ghostly charm and comedy as its forefathers, this time around, Ghostface is hunting down victims with a connection to previous killers.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: February 18, 2022
Bloodcurdling and gory, there’s no denying that Leatherface is one of the genre’s iconic villains that we know so little about. Even with the 2017 installment digging into the teenage past of this chainsaw-wielding psychopath, there are still many layers that screenwriters are peeling back to create one of the best new horror movies of the year. However, don’t be fooled by the name, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) will serve as a sequel to classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). Now that’s years in the making! Thanks, Netflix.

Halloween Ends: October 14, 2022
Those who’ve been following the Michael Myers’ revamp since 2018 have anticipated the arrival of this third installment, especially after Halloween Kills (featuring an impressive 27 murders) was initially delayed due to the pandemic. As one of the best new horror movies expected to arrive before All Hallow’s Eve, Halloween Ends caps off the trilogy, bringing the franchise total to 13. While not much is known about the finale, we’re guessing that it will give fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for.
